Sequence Delivery Options

The DNA sequencing results can most easily be delivered by you downloading the sequencing results from our DNA Sequencing Result Retrieval site. We will e-mail you to let you know when your sequencing results are ready to retrieve from our secure server and then you can simply follow the instructions below to retrieve your DNA sequences:

(1) Log-in to dnaLIMS using your log-in name and password. If you do not already have a log-in name and password, you will need to create one. We may have already assigned you a temporary log-in name and password, so please contact us if you have any questions.

(2) Choose "Retrieve Sequencing Result" and a page will be displayed that has a form with all of the order numbers for your sequencing orders listed on it.

(3) You can retrieve your DNA sequences most effectively by doing an 'order number search'. In the order number table, you will find the orders that you have submitted on-line. Select the desired order number (also has a corresponding date, and # of samples) and click on the 'Submit' button. NOTE: All of your orders will be listed, including orders that may not yet be completed. For large orders, you may want to search by 'sample sheet' number to avoid duplications of downloaded sequences. To download all of your sequencing data files, you will use the 'Chromat' and 'Text' buttons in the upper left part of the screen. If, as an example, you wanted to download your chromatogram files, you would select the 'Chromat' button. This will take you to a new screen that will prompt you to either "save" or "open" your files. We recommend that you save your files to your computer. Now that your files are on your computer, you will need either Winzip or Stuffit to decompress the files. In most cases double clicking the Zip File will bring up WinZip (compression software) or Stuffit Expander (decompression software) and the data will be decompressed and ready for use.

Once downloaded, the files can be opened as you normally do after unzipping the zip archived files. The chromatogram (chromat) files can be opened using either "Chromas" or "Bio Edit" (for PCs) or "Edit View" (for Macs) sequence analysis software. All of these applications can be downloaded for free from our links page. The simple text files of the sequences can be opened using Microsoft Word.

If you are unable to access your data from our DNA Sequencing Result Retrieval site, you can request that we deliver the sequence files via E-Mail in either Bin Hex or MIME formats. Eudora E-Mail software is recommended for receiving the sequence files and can be downloaded for free. In general, Unix computers are not very successful in receiving E-Mail attachments and Hotmail and Yahoo E-Mail accounts do not have enough storage capacity to receive the large sequence files.

Another sequence delivery option is for us to mail the electronic copies of the sequence files on a PC FORMATTED ZIP disk that you provide at the time you submit your DNA samples. If you would like us to mail you your sequences on a Zip disk, please send us a self-addressed disk mailer with your Zip disk.
